How a job moves through the bench

A clear path from first email to final play-test

Your rig doesn't disappear into a black box. Each step below is designed to keep you in the loop and avoid surprises on the invoice.

1

Check-in & listening brief

You share the issue (or goal), plus clips or board diagrams if helpful. We agree a bench slot and a rough range for cost and turnaround.

2

Diagnostics & options

Once on the bench, we confirm the fault, test related parts of the chain and send you written options: repair, replace, or rethink.

3

Repair, mod or rebuild

Work only starts once you sign off. For pedalboard builds we also send a quick layout sketch before drilling and wiring.

4

Play-test & handover

We test at playing volume, not whisper level. On collection, you're welcome to plug in, walk through changes and ask questions.

Rig before & after

Tidy wiring, quieter stage

Messy pedalboard wiring before rebuild

Before: mixed cables, noisy power, slow set-up between gigs.

Clean pedalboard wiring after rebuild

After: labelled I/O, isolated supplies and quick-pack routing.

Typical turnaround

Simple pedal fixes often leave within 3 working days. Complex amp or board work may take longer in busy periods.

Cardiff stories

Rigs we've kept on the road

Most of our work comes from word-of-mouth between players, engineers and techs. Here are a few typical use-cases.

FOH

Local engineer needing consistent input levels and low noise across three different players' boards for a weekly residency.

STU

Producer wanting a reference pedal chain that matches recallable digital presets for overdub sessions.

TOUR

Touring guitarist needing a fly-safe version of their main rig that sets up in under five minutes.

Guitarist with pedalboard on stage

Jordan, touring guitarist

Stereo board rebuild & amp servicing

"Noise used to creep in as soon as both amps were on. After rewiring the board and reworking the grounding on one amp, the rig is quieter than my studio chain and changeovers are half as long."

Recording engineer in a studio control room

Rowan, recording engineer

Studio reference pedal chain

"We now have a labelled 'house' pedal rig that any player can plug into. Levels match our templates, there's no mystery hum, and recall between days is actually reliable."

Questions before you book

Service FAQs

Do you work on any brand of pedal?

We cover most analogue and many digital pedals from major brands and boutique builders. Very cheap imports can be uneconomical to repair; we'll tell you quickly if that's the case so you can decide whether to proceed.

Can you service all valve amps?

We handle a wide range of valve guitar amps, but we don't currently work on high-voltage valve hi-fi gear or complex multi-channel rack units. For anything unusual, we'll ask for model details up front and confirm before booking you in.

Do I need to bring my whole rig?

For straightforward pedal faults, just the pedal and power supply is fine. For intermittent or gain-staging issues, bringing part or all of the signal chain can help us reproduce the problem and solve it faster.

Is there a warranty on repair work?

Yes. Repair work and wiring carried out by Pedal & Circuit is covered by a 3-month warranty on parts and labour, excluding misuse or further modification after collection.

Not sure if it's a repair or a rebuild?

Send a quick photo of your board or amp back panel when you enquire. A picture often makes it obvious whether we're looking at a simple fault, a power problem or a layout issue.
